Offering a lusciously lavish multi-sensory experience, Dissecting Sebastian is the ultimate participatory live art encounter. It’s an art installation, a performance, a history lesson and a damn nice meal - all propelled by an animated convivial atmosphere.

Layer by layer, diners are mesmerized by the unfolding of a living art event running for 2 consecutive nights in mid April. Be seated on communal tables and prepare to share the unfolding of the mystery. The intoxicating event is set in a beautifully converted Edwardian Church on Vyner St in Hackney’s renowned gallery district.

The evening will be divided into three distinct acts, which in turn are interspersed with each course of the renaissance inspired menu featuring roasts and rosewater delights to compliment the elaborate visual feast presented on stage.

With 16thC Portugal as a starting point we will meet Sebastian, the tormented child King. The one who lead the country to disaster and the loss of its empire. It’s been said that since then, Portugal awaits his return from the mist to restore its glory. He may even dine with you. Then is Sebastian the Saint who, tied to a tree and stuck with arrows shows us how beautiful the suffering of others can be. And finally the tragedy of fading youthful beauty. Oh to be young and desired!

I almost forgot about this. This is the rooftop of a building I visited in Marsailles. For the first time I have been impressed with the vision of an architect.
This building was designed to house people after their homes were destroyed during the war. Its most impressive features for me were: Hollow Legs - The building stands on Pilotas that the kitchen waste is funneled through and is fed and processed by gravity and rainwater to be collected as compost somewhere underneath.
Dark Corridors - The walkways with everybody's front doors is dark to automatically lower the people's voices that passed.

Corbusier was idealistic and maybe ahead of his time but I have much respect for those who think without limits to possibility.

Finally I have been able to shoot polaroid!

There is no greater feeling than composing a shot completely BEFORE even thinking of pressing the shutter, then choosing the moment that you want to immortalise into a beautiful one-off print, then quietly nurturing it as it develops and finally the reavealing of the image!
Even if you don't like the picture you take on polaroid there is always something very special about the print itself. Complelely unrepeatable.

This Saturday I am shooting a fashion story inspired by Edie. This picture is from a recent shoot with Yulia and have used it to work on the feel of one of the Edie shots. Essentially it will become the iconic image from "Ciao Manhattan".

One more from Porto, completely forgot.
This graffiti stencil was printed on the building of where my friend lives, where I was staying. The caption translates as something like "They pay me with Green Receipts". Apparently in Portugal if you work casually or as freelance, anything without a full-time contract then you provide your employer with this receipt of payment. It is a problem because the employees don't get any benefits like public health care, superannuation or job security and the employers prefer to pay this way because it is cheaper and simpler for them. Because of the benefit to the employer it has become very difficult to secure a full time contract, particularly in the creative fields.

This is Vouzela in 1941 when it snowed last.

Today I attempted to find the same position of this this photograph but as I didn't have this picture with me for reference I misjudged it slightly. Also there are a lot more trees blocking the view than in 1941.

It snowed last Friday 9th Jan. Today is 3 days later so I missed it at it's best..
Here it is anyhow. I'm going to find this spot again tomorrow, hopefully there will be some remnants of snow.

A bit of Porto

Ok so this is the Ponte da Arrabida, to me I only know it as the big white main bridge with the motor way going over it. I stumbled down a hill and took this picture while a couple sitting in a car next to me smoked spliffs. As I passed them one called out "Hey! where you from?" Damn he knows I speak english, just keep walking and pretend to be german or somthing.. It was a rough part of town, not just me being a snob. Carrying a camera, backpack and blonde hair screams "tourist" around here..
A creative variation to barbed wire over a wall. quite pretty really..
My wife's school where she studied architecture, just one of the buildings. The Faculdade de Architectura was designed by the Portuguese Guru of Architects Álvaro Siza Vieira. The portuguese architects I know (which is most of the portuguese population of London) go a little weak in the knees when you speak of Him, they also drool a little.. I went back there today to the school because apparently I missed an amazing part of it. Some old pink buildings and a garden. I looked and almost got eaten by a dog, I saw the things I missed but it wasn't really worth the 2nd trip there. probably I'm still missing something.

The picture above was meant to be underneath the one next to this but I couldn't work out how.. This is the Casa da Musica. A beautiful building that reminds me of a space ship. Inside, the background of one of the stages is a beautiful sunset distorted by curvy glass.

Beautiful Porto. I have managed to wake early enough to see some sun today but why do I find myself constantly in front of this machine?
Today is a trip to Foz to see the beach then a visit to Serralves to a beautiful 1920's mansion-turned-museum.

I have reached the final leg of my portuguese journey, Porto. This is where I arrived about 2 weeks ago with the sun rising and the plane flying a complete circle around the city, absolutely breath taking. So much so that I foolishly didn't take a picture of it.
After snapping my way back here the pictures I'm most interested in are ones taken and forgotten some time ago in London and other places. A scan of my hard drive revealed some gems that I had overlooked.

Luckily I am in a city with fantastic architecture and the sun will apparently be shining all week so let's see what that brings. Sun is such a luxury. London has a great deficit.

The First of Many

This is my attempt to produce a blog. At this point there cannot be any promise of regularity of posts but I can say for sure that I will be posting.

The purpose of this blog is to show what I've been working on most recently. It will be kind of like when a child has made a macaroni sculpture and is holding it up to it's parents for recognition... hmm yep, exactly like that.

Starting from Vouzela, Portugal here is one scrap-book image of a nearby town. I had just touched the head of very smelly dog and visited a cemetary that had a grave with photos of a baby in a hospital with tubes coming from its nose.. The front of this strangely balanced house has an entrance with 2 plaster lions painted in the Lisboa football club Sporting's colours, holding footballs under their paws.

Ok not much of a debut post but let's see how I improve on it.
